my-pet-spider-oml asked

could you compile some vocabulary regarding witchcraft? Things like charged, yule, cleanse, smudging... stuff like that. I'm not particularly clear on those things.

ohsomagickal

yes i’ll try my best!

to cleanse is to rid something of bad energy. such as crystals, a room, your whole house or even yourself. cleansing can be done with water, air, sage or other sorts of herbs and plants, a full moon. it usually depends on what you’re trying to cleanse! smudging (to me) is basically the same thing.

charging is to charge something with energy. you can charge something with the element of fire, or under a full moon, or even with your own energy depending on what it is. example: charging crystals under a full moon will help it to perform at its best for healing or during spells.

a ritual is something us witches do to celebrate something, such as rituals on sabbats, full/new moons, things like that. these usually include bathing, burning candles or incense, maybe a chant, cleansing yourself and your tools, depending on the occasion!

sabbats are holidays celebrated by witches. these include Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh, Mabon, and Samhain.

this post explains all sabbats and ways to celebrate! http://notyourmothersspellbook.tumblr.com/post/171536995303/upcoming-sabbats

a grimoire or book of shadows is a witch’s journal. anything related to witchcraft can go in this book, such as crafted spells, vocab to remember, information on herbs, crystals, sabbats, tarot cards or anything like that, tarot spreads and readings, things about the moon cycles, anything at all!

an altar is where a witch does their practices. it can have anything they wish on it, such as candles, crystals, things to represent the elements or their deities, plants, books, incense, ect.

the pentagram is the symbol of the star with a circle surrounding it. each point represents (from top point and clockwise) Spirit, Water, Fire, Earth, Air, and the circle represents all of these things being connected as one.

manifesting is to bring energy forth to make something happen. such as getting a new job, bringing in extra money, love and relationships/friendships, happiness, or anything like that. this can be done with meditation or spellwork.

i can’t think of any more words but let me know if there are specific ones you’d like to know and i’ll do my best to describe them!
